"Design au banc" n°04

A critical forum for monitoring new design
A VIA / Pompidou Centre co-production

Objets de marques

Extending similar public debate forums in fields such as literature, cinema, architecture and contemporary art, VIA and the Pompidou Centre have undertaken to bring together regularly leading professionals to discuss products, events, publications, exhibitions, trade fairs and even interior design projects (restaurants, boutiques, museums, etc.).

For its fourth run Design au banc is hosting a special public forum dedicated to the critical analysis of a set of ‘products’ currently doing the rounds. Discussion focuses on their real qualities as much as on perceived qualities, considering the culture of the brand or maker.
Two well-known media figures - Chloé Braunstein and Michèle Champenois -, along with a sociologist - Henri-Pierre Jeudy - compose the panel responsible for de-coding processes at work in the elaboration of these ‘products’, as well as the brand strategies behind them.

The products :

- United Crystal Woods by Marcel Wanders for Baccarat, 2010 collection .
- 111 Navy Chair by Coca Cola & Emeco, 2010.
- Caméléon by Jasper Morrison for Camper,summer 2011 collection (re-edition 1920).
- Siwa collection by Naoto Fukasawa, ONAO edition and distributed by Virages, 2010.
- Ruché collection by Inga Sempé for Ligne Roset, 2010.
- Sofas collection by Ora-Ïto for Dunlopillo, 2010.
- Lamp Lykta by Ikea, 2010/2011 catalogue.
- Food products by Michel et Augustin, N.A !, et Innocent.
- Casque WESC by DJ Steve Aoki, 2009 collection.
- Ipad by Apple, 2010.

With Chloé Braunstein (design expert & critic), Michèle Champenois (design & architecture journalist), Henri-Pierre Jeudy (sociologist with the CNRS, writer).

Moderation : Romain Lacroix (Centre Pompidou) et Gérard Laizé (Chief executive, VIA)
