environmental designer, interior architect, scenographer

Florence Bourel is an independent designer involved in exploring different areas of creation: signage, scenography, interior architecture, furniture, objects…

She has a passion for putting visual messages into space, and for creating direction-finding or information programmes in cultural and artistic environments. In 1998 she began a 5-year collaboration with the Intégral Ruedi Baur studio. Among other things, as projet head she took part in designing signage for the Cité internationale universitaire in Paris, with designer Eric Jourdan. Since 2004, in collaboration with the Des Signes graphics studio, she has created scenographies and signage for cultural institutions and private clients (Palais de la Découverte, château de Fontainebleau…).

In parallel, she has also worked with the Poisson d’avril collective (which she co-founded with Emmanuel Gillet in 1997), before developing a solo activity in design focused on signature objects for Ligne Roset, Christian Tortu, Serax…
Her work revolves around a questioning of the archetypes that govern our life styles, with the will to go beyond passing fashions and style effects to achieve creations that are poetic and refined.
An example of this research is the ’Mellow’ sofa, with its clean and timeless lines, which reinvent the function of the piece. Made by Désio, ’Mellow’ was on show at the Maison&Objet salon in January 2010.
