environmental designer, interior architect, scenographer, museum layout designer

Architect, designer, scenographer, professor at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs, Christian GERMANAZ is a graduate of the Ecole Boulle and the ENSAD. He began his own practice in 1970 after working with a number of architects and industrialists. A many-sided creator, he is interested in all the aspects of our living space. As a designer he has done collections of furniture and lights, his best known pieces being the Half & Half seat, which was chosen by the Museum of Modern Art of New York, and the Archilumière lighting system made by Philips. His work in architecture, "a more global design", as he points out, includes commissions for big French companies and State institutions. His approach is informed by exacting rigour and the sensitive use of light as the poetic creator of the space that it reveals. His constant interest in set design gives expression to his fine gift for space planning and his love of the arts in general. He is well known for his museum and exhibitions layouts, in which "architectural space is essentially the scenographic setting for people and objects’.
