Dodo Arslan has recently founded a studio after working for four years in various design consultancies.
LowRes couch, that was presented in 2003 when design landscape wasn’t so crowded of angular seat, will be in North Sails’ Wind Generator Flagship Stores all over Europe (production by SpHaus, www.sphaus.com).
At Milan’s Salone 2005 the studio presented Apple rocking armchair which won II prize at Young&Design competition.
Apple is realized in soft polyurethane and, as you seat, it "embraces" the body and reveals it’s rocking movement.
The studio is now developing Leudo Lounge prototype in a complete family of products for Alias (www.aliasdesign.it) and new products for SpHaus 2006’s collection.
At FIM Furniture Fair in Spain he presented Valencia one-off lamp, made out of shells and an "heart" that reacts to bulbs’ heat opening and closing the lamp.
His Kaleido Light is dedicated to Achille Castiglioni. It is a piramid made of three mirrors and three bulbs that reflects the image of its famous Taraxacum lamp.
He teaches at the Scuola Italiana di Design in Padova and the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan.
He participated in Alessi’s Metalwork Design and Ikea’s Home furnishing workshops.
He was part of Stradivari Wood’s research project for selected woods from Bosco Stradivari in Val di Fiemme, those which were used for the famous violins.
He designed the logo for Pirelli Tires, for high performance tires "Pzero Rosso" and "Pzero Nero".
His sofas LowRes and Leudo Louge have been published in the International Design Year Book (2004 and 2005 editions) that collects the best of furniture, lighting, tableware, textile and product design.
Before starting his own studio Dodo Arslan worked for Studio & Partners (Nicholas Bewick, Michele De Lucchi, Torsten Fritze, Emilio Torri) developing projects for Deutsche Post, British American Tobacco and Zumtobel Staff’s Mildes Licht IV which won the Design Plus Prize.
He then joined Continuum (Milan - Boston - Seoul) working for Motorola, Samsung, Hewlett Packard, Elan and Voelkl; Samsung Pronta 1200, won the Good Design Award and the KIDA Grand Prize, special prize from Korean Industrial Design Award.
Voelkl Catapult tennis racquet and Zumtobel Staff’s Mildes Licht IV were included in ADI Design Index, and will compete for the Compasso d’Oro Award.
