Charles O’Toole graduated in product design from The National College of Art and Design, Dublin in 1994. A special interest in furniture design led him to study at The School of Architecture in Aarhus, Denmark. From here came the dream of Charles O’Toole furniture design.
Charles’ design focuses on creative solutions specializing in one-off furniture and product design. The company’s philosophy is contemporary design with an emphasis on quality, from the initial design stage to the finished piece.

Christmas shop show 2004 The SkyLab, 1 & 2 Exchange Street, where the Irish Furniture Designer Network (IFDN) were exhibiting their unique designs and had items for sale or commission from (Public time) on the 4th - 24th December.
With this Christmas Shop-Show the ’Network’ deliver contemporary design products to a broader group of people and elevated interest in Irish contemporary furniture and lighting design.
Designersblock." was an avant garde exhibition taking place in London from 25th - 28th September 2003 as a fringe event to 100 percent design. This focused on the best of conceptual design that often leads to production. My project uses the idea of tennis balls as a material to create a range of furniture from a chaise-lawn to a stool.

This event is the principal exhibition as part of Design week in London from 25th - 28th September 2003 attracting participants from the international Design scene. On exhibition was a public beam seating product designed in collaboration with O’Driscoll furniture Dublin.
The Irish designers / Fun Sofa / Great Danes at Habitat
Since April 2002, the Dublin Habitat team have raised the profile of design In Ireland and in particular contemporary Irish design through a range of initiatives. The first of these was an exhibition showcasing the work of eight contemporary designers, of which I was one in September 2002.
Charles acted as curator for Habitat for the fun sofa exhibition which was a collaboration with seven Irish design colleges to remodel an existing sofa in May 2003.
Charles was curator of the Great Danes exhibition that showcase Danish design and culture from September 17th to October 19th, 2003. Exhibition had a mix of pieces from iconic and contemporary designers including Christian Flindt, Søren Ulrik and Louise Campbell and commercial selection of products from Danish companies such as Stelton, Le Klint and Royal Copenhagen.
Lectures were hosted on related topics such as the evolution of the Danish design industry. In-store events such as an interactive show displaying Danish fashion / Lego fair.
