Thomas BASTIDE

Contact : Baccarat
11, place des Etats Unis 75116 Paris - France

environmental designer, sculptor in glass & crystal

After his first professional experiences with the great pioneer designer Raymond Loewy, with whom he designed, among other things, a sewing machine, Thomas Bastide was the accredited permanent creator for Baccarat for eighteen years.
He seems to have been destined to work in glass, crystal and art from his childhood: his Swedish mother was a painter and stylist (who worked for Haviland)and his father was the writer François-Régis Bastide. At the age of five Thomas discovered glass in the south of Sweden, where master-glaziers such as Kosta-Boda were working: ’An old glazier used to give me pieces of glass and I’d play at sticking them together to make little sculptures’. The way was laid out for training at Penninghen (Ensag) and then Olivier de Serres.
