Marthaud

My work is very much tied up with visual research into wrought iron, which is an age-old technique. I try to adapt this material to new aesthetics. I see my work as continuing the tradition of the major recognized styles for wrought iron work, meaning the period between the beginning of the 20th century and the 1940s. My main source of inspiration is Art nouveau (École de Nancy, Guimard, Horta, Vienna Sezession...) which I consider to be especially interesting in every aspect. I think it would be both useful and enriching to get back to quality objects or furniture, such as the pieces bequeathed to us by early 20th century creators. I use associations of materials that are part of the decorative expression of the whole. For example, wrought iron for structure, patinaed cement for the motifs, bronze or pâte de verre, wood, bronze, etc. I am particularly sensitive to the choice of materials to be associated. To my mind, the association of materials is a theme that is not sufficiently exploited in contemporary
furniture.
